There’s a new shop in town
A luxury toiletry and home fragrance business opened last month in the pretty market town of Cranbrook, Kent. Oast & Rye whose products are made in Kent have been creating luxury, sustainable lifestyle products since the business began four years ago, with a small shop in Brenley, the company have now expanded with a brand-new store. Customers are able to smell the fragrances which are available as room spray, candles and diffusers. They also have a range of toiletries including shampoo, conditioner, hand soaps, hand creams and more. All paraben-free, vegan friendly, reusable, and refillable.
There are fourteen different fragrances to choose from in the Oast & Rye range, including their brand-new fragrance ‘Winter Solstice’. All candles come in two sizes, the single wick size burns for around 30 hours and the three-wick version 40 hours.

Oast & Rye’s founder, Philippa MacKinnon, has some useful advice on how to make sure your candle burns longer
• When lighting your candle for the first time, make sure you light it for 2 hours or until the whole layer of the top wax melts as this will prevent tunnelling and the candle will last longer.
• Do not touch or move your candle when burning, as it will be hot and always trim the wick before each burn.
• Keep the lid on when not in use as it will prevent dust or objects getting into the candle.
• Burn candles for no more than four hours at a time.
• Cease use when 5mm of wax remains.
• Reuse or recycle your container when possible.
The ‘Winter Solstice’ range is also available as a room spray or to use in a diffuser. The diffuser set comprises a glass amber apothecary bottle accompanied by the refillable scent and 12 black reeds. The diffuser should give up to 12 weeks of fragrance if turning the reeds every other day. For very large rooms with high ceilings, two diffusers may work best in the room.
Sustainability
All packaging used in Oast & Rye products is made from shredded recycled paper and compostable starch that melts in water, whilst the bottles and candles are designed to extend beyond single use, refills are available. All plastic bottles are BPA free, and their signature amber glass bottles are made from recycled glass. Many of Oast & Rye’s suppliers are fellow artisan businesses who are also passionate about sustainability and in lowering their carbon footprint.
