Trend Report – top spring trends
The end of winter is in sight. Yes, it is almost time to trade your oversized jumpers and woolly hats in for midi-dresses and cropped trousers. Among the usual pastel hues and sheer fabrics that dominate the runways at S/S Fashion Week were a few unexpected trends that are sure to shake-up your wardrobe this season.
But don’t panic, our top picks round-up has everything you need to update your look in time for those sun-filled spring afternoons.
The Trench Coat
It’s not a surprise that the trench coat made an appearance on almost every spring 2018 runway – it is as timeless as the LBD. Long and mid-length trench coats were favoured by the majority of designers and were seen draped over everything from suits to bikinis. Neutral tones, such as creams, tans and even burnt oranges will work with almost any outfit – plus, they will also give you that effortless chic look.
Pastels
Romantic pastel shades and dusty tones are at the heart of spring fashion, and spring 2018 is no exception. While almost every pastel shade made an appearance on the runway, lilac was the favourite of many designers.
Checks
Don’t pack away your winter tartan and check prints just yet. The runways were full of everything from folksy ginghams, red and blue plaids and neutral checks. In fact, this print has been seen on all the key pieces of the season, including trench coats. Pick a muted print and pair with pastel shades for an ultra-feminine outfit.
Sequins
It seems sequins are no longer reserved for the party season. This spring everything from khakis to vests are being embellished with sparkly jewels, beads and sequins. If you are feeling bold, pair a sequin covered top or jacket with jeans or tailored trousers. If, however, subtly is more your style, there are plenty of pieces embroidered with delicate beaded patterns.
Belts
Belts are, without a doubt, the accessory of the season. It doesn’t matter what kind of belt it is, just fasten them over every spring dress, shirt dress, high-waisted skirt you own and you will be good to go.
Fringing
Swishing from the collars, dress hems, jacket sleeves and bags of every collection on the runway is fringe detailing. Yes, it is one of our boldest picks. But trust us. If you embrace only one statement trend this spring, it has to be fringe. And we aren’t talking about the boho trims of 2017, this year it is all about the 1920’s flapper-inspired fringe. So, grab a cocktail and channel your inner Zelda Fitzgerald.
