Be Bold, Be Colourful, Be You
Taking inspiration from nature with its changing patterns and colours found throughout the seasons, Rachel Branson creative designer at Art Katsura, produces limited edition ranges of vibrant fashionwear for all. The designs for her garments start life as a canvas painting which are then transferred to digital print. Local arboretum, Bedgebury Pinetum was the inspiration behind her first canvas painting and has since been the source for many of the fabric collections.
Born out of the frustration of not being able to purchase garments that don’t contain black or colour combinations that don’t work together, Rachel, who has a background in fashion knitwear, began experimenting with colour, creating fabrics to suit an individual’s colour palette. Her designs are not for shrinking violets, the bolder the pattern and brighter the colour, the better you’ll feel.
Planet conscious
Conscious of environmental impact, several of her items are made from a single meter of fabric to help reduce fabric production and fabric waste. These items can be worn in several different ways, giving the garment longevity through changeable styles.
All fabrics are printed using completely water-based inks, with no need for solvents or chemicals. The special heat fixing method means no contamination of water and all printing is done on and order by order basis. This may mean that you will need to wait a little longer than usual for a garment but, as the saying goes, good things come to those who wait!
Summer 2021
In the summer of 2021 the Sand & Sea Collection, for Ibiza Fashion Festival, was launched. The swimwear and other items within the collection wouldn’t look out of place on the English Riviera or the golden beaches of a European (of further afield) beach destination.
Autumn 2022
This year sees the brand exhibit in their first trade show Pure London, a global platform for womenswear, accessories and footwear brands, where a range of Art Katsura kimono style jackets and dresses, tops and skirts will be available to view.
Art Katsura is stocked in many stores including R&B Accessories, Tunbridge Wells, and online store Wolf & Badger. The collection has also been showcased in Soho, Wadhurst and in a pop-up shop in Bells Yew Green last year. Garments can be shipped around the world, with the furthest customers (to date) in Hong Kong and Australia.
