Celebrating 10 years OF Tunbridge Wells on ice
Skate, the ice rink that transforms Calverley Grounds in Royal Tunbridge Wells into a magical Christmas event is returning. A great family event for teaching the kids, perfecting your moves with your friends, or having a romantic night out – one that in 2019, welcomed 40,000 skaters.
Marking the start of the festive season the Assembly Hall Theatre’s real ice rink, Skate, will be open this festive season, and to celebrate their tenth birthday the rink is offering a free ticket to young skaters who also turned 10 this year.
Some changes are being implemented to ensure everyone’s safety, and to maximise enjoyment of their Skate 2020 visit. Reduced capacity on the rink will mean more room for social distancing. This also means that tickets will be limited so if you have a particular session in mind book now as it may sell out. Visitors and staff need to wear a face covering and comply with NHS Track and Trace.
Additional skates will be in stock to allow time for cleaning and sanitisation and there will be extra space in the skate changing area to enable social distancing. Enhanced cleaning, more toilets and sanitiser stations are included in the measures being applied.
This year the bar and café alongside the rink will be in a semi-open marquee to promote air flow, withincreased outdoor seating.
The skating experience will be familiar to regular visitors. There will be parent/toddler sessions at 9.15am every weekend plus Monday to Thursdays before the 18 December. Following its popularity last year, curling will be available during some of the evening sessions.
Children will be able to skate with the Snow Sisters in the morning sessions on 27 December; and 3 January. The Snow Sisters will sing songs from Frozen.
There will also be a socially distanced Father Christmas in his cosy grotto. See here for details www.fatherchristmasinkent.co.uk.
Skate will open and be managed in line with Government Guidance. A full safety statement will be available closer to the time and a risk assessment will be published on the Skate website.
Ticket prices are from £8 . The rink is a GO! Card venue. GO! Card is a membership scheme free to people who live in the borough of Tunbridge Wells and are on low income and in receipt of benefits. www.gotunbridgewells.co.uk.
