Ashford School celebrates 125 years of inspiring young minds in 2023
Against a backdrop of global events having changed the world significantly in the last few years, it is with pride that the Ashford School community can look back on all that it has achieved over the last 125 years as a consistent presence on the educational landscape of Ashford and the surrounding area.
Founded in 1898 as the Modern High School for Girls, in the 125 years since Ashford School opened its doors for the first time there have been seven Monarchs, a site move, two world wars, joining United Learning and a merger with Ashford Friars School in Great Chart. Ashford School today is an independent co-educational day and boarding school with over 1000 pupils aged 0 – 18.
The Senior School site still sits proudly on East Hill at the heart of Ashford town centre, alongside Bridge Nursery – one of three superb nurseries that form part of Ashford School. The Prep School, including the Stables and Prep nurseries, occupies the beautiful former Friars School site in Great Chart. Despite being on separate sites, there has very much been a focus in recent years on developing a ‘One School’ approach ensuring that Ashford School pupils can benefit from an exceptionally well-rounded education and seamless transition through the school.
Ashford School in 2023 has the luxury of an illustrious past but has its eyes firmly on the future. Reflecting on this milestone, Michael Hall (Headmaster) said; ‘We take great pride in the history of this remarkable school and how our school has flourished over the last 125 years. I am most excited, however, to lead Ashford School into the next 125 years confident that our school will continue to inspire the minds of our students for many generations to come’’.
