Parents ‘blown away’ by Slindon College’s immersive School Play

Pupils at Independent Day and Boarding School for boys, Slindon College recently celebrated 10 years of Drama at the school by performing their annual outside promenade play. An enthusiastic audience were treated to a spell-binding performance from pupils.

Head of Drama at Slindon College, Mr Bentley, said: As always, I am immensely proud of the pupils, and never fail to be amazed by their hard work, talent and teamwork. They have combated numerous personal challenges both socially and technically and have created something magical and memorable. The bad weather we experienced on the day could not dampen the spirits of our audience as they were taken on a magical’ tour of our National Trust grounds in what has proven to be our most immersive and successful play yet!”

The audience were taken on a journey on foot around the stunning school grounds set in the heart of the South Downs National Park, with each scene in a different location as the thrilling story panned out.

The 23 Slindon College pupils making up the hard-working cast had been preparing for the show in their own time since January, with all hands on deck from College staff in recent weeks creating props, costumes and set pieces within Design Technology and Art. 

Slindon College provides a specialist learning environment and highly individualised education to pupils from year four through to Sixth Form. Underpinning the ethos of Slindon College is strong pastoral care and small class sizes which ensure pupils thrive as their strengths are understood and called upon to encourage further learning exploration.

Many pupils at Slindon College have moderate learning difficulties, mainly in the area of cognition and learning. The school is passionate about the importance of the individual and removing learning barriers. Every child at Slindon College is valued for who they are, and encouraged to develop their talents. The College supports them to achieve their personal best both at school and within the wider community.

Slindon College Shortlisted for National Excellence Awards
Slindon College, near Arundel, has been named a finalist in the Boarding Schools Association (BSA) Supporting Excellence Awards 2024. Competing in the Wellbeing and Mental Health Initiative Award category, the college is one of only three schools shortlisted nationwide.

Headteacher Sotiria Vlahodimou expressed her delight: This award celebrates schools with robust mental health initiatives that enhance self-esteem, strengthen the school community, and promote healthy choices. We are thrilled to be one of the three finalist schools!”

Central to Slindon College’s ethos is outstanding pastoral care, supported by initiatives from the dedicated Mental Fitness Team, led by SENCo Adam Sharpe. The team offers weekly Woodland Walks, a time to talk’ programme, and individual pupil meetings to support emotional well-being and mental health.
