A New Era for Cobham Hall
September 2025 will see the dawn of a new era for Cobham Hall, the renowned independent school near Gravesend, as it welcomes its first ever co-educational Year 7 cohort. Launched 60 years ago as a pioneering school for girls, in 2023 Cobham broke with tradition and opened its Sixth Form to boys. Building on the unprecedented success of this move, and after consultation with all stakeholders, the school is delighted to announce that it will become fully co-educational from next year.
The first boy, George, joined Cobham Hall’s Sixth Form in January 2023, and this year becomes the first boy in history to graduate from the school. Last September, the school recorded another first, opening its new boys’ boarding house in a wing of the 16th century manor it calls home. In February 2024, the school community elected their first ever boy to the democratically chosen Student Leadership Team, as Year 12 student, Jude, became Deputy Guardian (Deputy Head Student). With a new, larger cohort of boys set to join Year 12 this September, and the vibrant co-educational Sixth Form going from strength to strength, Cobham believes the time is right to share its outstanding educational environment with boys from the age of 11.
“It has been a joy to see our Sixth Form boys flourish in Cobham’s unique family atmosphere,” says Head Wendy Barrett, “and we are excited now to be able to welcome our first co-ed Year 7 cohort into our supportive community.”
Set in fine historic buildings within 150 acres of Kent countryside yet only 30 minutes from central London’s buzz, Cobham is a school with a difference.
Non-selective, it offers a warm and friendly, diverse, tolerant and international environment where students feel safe to step out of their comfort zone, develop their curiosity and creativity, and to discover there is more in them than they dared believe.
