This is a fascinating former windmill and granary, recently refurbished and extended to a high standard and is a very comfortable and well-appointed home, ideal as a permanent residence or a special weekend retreat.

Thorne Mill was a former smock mill in 1870 and was a working corn mill. A smock mill is a type of windmill that consists of a sloping, horizontally weatherboarded tower, usually with six or eight sides. It is topped with a roof or cap that rotates to bring the sails into the wind, and was reputed to be the tallest structure in Sussex, comprising seven floors and standing nearly 65’ high. It last worked in 1902 and was badly damaged in a storm in 1905. The timber above the base was removed in 1907 and the mill was subsequently converted into a private dwelling.

During the last few years the property has undergone a thorough programme of refurbishment and the majority of accommodation, including two principal bedrooms, is arranged on the ground floor. There is Propane gas central heating and timber framed sealed unit double glazed windows and doors.

Double timbered doors open into the entrance hall with brick floor and french door leading out onto the decked terrace area and garden. The impressive drawing room/dining room/kitchen provides a versatile open-plan living space with solid oak flooring. The sitting area has a brick inglenook-style fireplace with an electric log-burning stove. The kitchen section has been re-fitted with solid timber worktops, a Franke textured sink, waste disposal unit, oven with 4-ring induction and a ceramic hob with warming stove and three ovens. All underpinned by Italian tiled flooring.

The Mill has a ground floor and inner hall with a guest bedroom and en suite bathroom. The first floor has the third bedroom and a family bathroom. Up on the second floor is the fourth bedroom.

In around half an acre, the gardens and grounds are well established and in a relatively private setting, bounded by fencing, established hedging and trees. There are level areas of lawn, plum, pear and apple trees, a selection of shrubs and sitting out area with brick retaining wall. The heated swimming pool is fence enclosed and has a solar cover.
